Q&A: How to plan your game in chess?

Question by Enjoying the holidays: How to plan your game in chess?
I’ve never really been great at chess. I could beat beginner computer programs, but never the more advanced versions. I don’t really understand the concept of planning ahead in chess. It seems really hard. Is it something that you can learn from a book? Or just does it come from playing the game repeatedly?
A lot of interesting responses, so I’m gonna put this one up to a vote.

there IS some planning, like being able to see weak spots from your opponent and fixing your own weak spots. i like the following book
author : irving chernev
title : winning chess, how to see three moves ahead
being that you can already beat low level computer programs? im guessing your chess rating is 1000 (which isnt bad) but a little book knowledge wouldnt hurt you

(updated answer because i read the dragon-slayers review)…one day he compliments me? and the next day he criticizes me? odd? and i never even played him?…i never even mentioned MY chess rating ! …i think he has something to prove, what it is im not exactly certain?

Old Windows Computer Game Question?

Question by Chicago Blackhawks: Old Windows Computer Game Question?
I have the white MacBook and I have Windows Vista Home Basic on it via Boot Camp. I have Lego Chess witch is a old Windows computer game. The game says that it will only work on a Windows 95 or 98 computer. I also have some other old computer games that only work on Windows 98 or any older version of Windows and some of them work on my Windows Vista Home Basic.

When I install the Chess game on my Windows Vista part of my MacBook and then I try to run the game the computer tells me to put the CD for the game into the computer and the CD is all ready in the computer. Can someone please tell me if there is a way to make the game work on my Vista part of my MacBook?

Thanks to anyone that can help me out

PS, If there is anything out there that I can get to make my game work I don’t want to have to pay for it.

Ahh..Lego Chess. Good times.
Vista will not run a game that requires Windows 98. Shortsightedness on the part of the designers if you ask me. You might have to hack your computer for that. Something I do not suggest.

There was this game where it had 4 players, being red blue green and yellow. Each side had multiple pieces like chess, but some had abilities of some sort. I kind of remember there being golems(fire, ice earth, maybe?) and a medusa and something else. If ANYONE has an idea of the game im talking about, please let me know!

Making a Board Game on the Computer?

Question by Asker of Questions: Making a Board Game on the Computer?
Is there any way I can learn to create an interactive two player board game on the computer without downloading any software? The board game I have in mind is more like a chess game than a monopoly game. I actually didn’t invent this game but it was taught to me so I already have all the rules and boards. If possible I would like to make it using a text-based promgraming language that can be done using software that is already on the computer. If someone could help me I would appreciate it.
