Question by bigboy105us: Why can’t I move my King in other directions in Chess?
A lot of times when I play Chess, I cannot move my King in other directions in Chess. Just one or two places and looking at the board, it looks like I can. This also often happens when many pieces are off the board and I’m trying to capture my opponent’s King. The computer game won’t let me move my King to many directions except for 1 or 2 places when there’s plenty of empty squares. I don’t get it.

A king cannot move to a square where it would be in check. Or in other words to a square that is under attack by one of your opponent’s pieces. So I am guessing that the computer is preventing you from making an illegal move.

Look carefully at the board next time, and see if one of your opponent’s pieces is attacking the square that you are trying to move to.

Take a look at the links on the US Chess Federation Web sites for some good explanations of the rules and tips on how to play.

Question by Ms_S: Are there any online chess games that teach you how to play?
I’ve always wanted to learn how to play chess…but I find the books a bit beyond me if you aren’t putting it into practice….the same with online tutorials where its just pages of reading. I think I could understand it if I had a board in front of me playing a game….but I live in a small town and everyone here plays backgammon or checkers….if they play board games at all….they all play computer games. I know the very basic rules…like the names of the pieces and their move ability and that white goes first and on your first move the pawn can move two squares. But Im not big on the check and check mate rules though. And I don’t know any strategies at all….I just move pieces willy nilly and hope they dont get taken. Obviously Im not looking to be any type of master….duh….just looking to play for fun….but to actually know what Im doing! :)
Thank you very much! But as I mentioned..I live in a small town…actually on an island so Im stuck with the people who live here really…obviously Im not going to travel to the mainland just for a chess teacher….and there are absolutely no local chess clubs. Theres not even a mothers group! People here are into checkers or backgammon and thats just the older people….the younger people only ever play playstation or the like.

Is fate inevitable even when it comes to free will?

Question by : Is fate inevitable even when it comes to free will?
I try to see this like a chess game with a tough chess computer. No matter what moves I do to accomplish my goal (free will), the chess computer ends the game with me losing (inevitable fate). Is this not the same when it comes to real life? No matter what you do in life, you die in the end, and the game will be over?

There is one fate that befalls us that is inevitable. Death. Get used to it or you will die unhappily.

Question by : Does Chess Titans in Windows 7 have an algorithm that forces it to commit a big mistake every 20th game?
I have played 245 games at level 5 and I have 14 wins, 7 draws, and 224 losses. Every time I win it’s because the computer makes a big mistake. Is there an algorithm that forces the computer to make a big mistake like every 20th game?

Best answer:

Answer by Ryan
I am not familiar with Chess Titan. If change the level of its playing strength then its algorithm also changes. For example if you lessen its level, then chess titan will chose an algorithm of weaker chess playing.

Now I read somewhere that Chess Titan has chess bugs. Anyway, I suggest you to choose another chess program, there are better ones. I think Chess Master is better. Not only you can play against it, it has interactive chess lessons too that will help you improve your play.

Can i save my chess game for further continuation?

Question by Gooz: Can i save my chess game for further continuation?
Hi.

I am looking for a chess game to play with people on the internet who use Windows (XP, or 7), and it should be able to be played as long as it takes while I dont need to sit while the game continues. In the Apple iPhone and iPod touch and iPad there is a Chess game called Chess With Friends which lets you make your move whenever you are ready and exit the app. come back within a week and see if your component already sent their/his/her move.

U am looking for something similar in a way to be used on a MS Windows computer connecting with a server and continue the game even if its just a move per week.

Thanks.

Yes, at any age you have a chance to be good, as you have defined it.
I hear your frustration. You can read and read, and then lose again on easy setting.
With just a few lessons in person, any established chess club member
could help you to defeat the computer on easy setting.
