Chess Openings: Petrov Defense

The Petrov Defense is a chess opening that looks to mirror white’s first two opening moves in hope for a usually drawish game. Black has to be careful though as it is unsound for him to continue to mirror the moves after white captures black’s pawn. @2:55, if white decides to take f7, black has to take with his king; can it be good for white to do that as black won’t be able to castle?
Someone did that to me recently and even though I was up in material, it messed up my whole game and I end up losing quickly.
(I am a terrible player though, just started playing again 2 weeks ago, after like 15 years…, for a friendly tournament at work; I still did good on other matches because of your site though, thx
