Just go to the chess website below. There you can learn a lot of important openings and strategies.
They have special sections for beginners too. You can start learning chess there.
Go to Section Chess Rules first to learn the chess rules and then to Beginner I and continue to Beginner II after that.
what i had is a pile of chess ebooks to be downloaded as a whole. i have no time to read though because the pace of learning is slow, so i learn by playing my chess instead
Check out this link. There are many ebooks available for download.

Google "matrix chess" and "bernard parham" will be all the chess you need for opening middle and endgame.
I don’t know if it is available on ebook (pdf) format, but my first chess book given to me by my chess teacher (back in high school) was called "The Greatest Chess Openings Ever," and it was written by A. Horowitz. This book broke down all the openings… King’s Gambit, Queen’s Gambit, Fianchetto, Four Knight’s Opening, just to name four out of several. This book went into great detail about the strengths and weaknesses of each opening, and some counters to that opening (like King’s Gambit Denied)… I really enjoyed it, and I recently passed it on to a young friend of my mine who, like you, is learning the game.
Have fun, read whatever you can, and I hope this helps!
I usually go for the print version, but my suggestion would be to read reviews by top players. Many books that are in print are available either as CDs or as PDFs, so go to a site like http://www.jeremysilman.com and check out the reviews. International Master Jeremy Silman reviews as well as Gran d Masters John Watson and Donaldson. Good Luck!
