As White:
Nimzo-Indian, Saemisch Variation (1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 e6 3. Nc3 Bb4 4. a3 Bxc3+ 5. bxc3. I like this because it gives White a broad center and the bishop pair, with only the weak c-pawns as compensation for Black.
As Black:
Sicilian Defense, Dragon Variation/Yugoslav Attack/Modern Variation (1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 g6 6. Be3 Bg7 7. f3 O-O 8. Qd2 Nc6 9. Bc4 Bd7 10. O-O-O Rc8 11. Bb3 Ne5 12. h4 h5 which hinders White’s kingside expansion, giving Black free rein on the queenside. Or
Sicilian Defense, Dragon Variation/Yugoslav Attack/Chinese Dragon (11. …Rb8!? dodging 11. Kb1).
King’s Gambit for white.
French Defense for black.
Ruy Lopez or Giuoco Piano for white and Alekhine’s Defense, French Defense or Sicilian for Black.
The Phillips system is my favourite as its ideas apply to white and to black.
from my experince i learnt that c3 is best for white f6 is the best opening for black because when we next do d4 and e3 the defense becomes strong and we still can manage to open the game i mean build our army! it’s a settled defense which i use because when i do c3 i learnt that my defense is in good shape and with the game i can capture an additional piece of my opponent!
it may not be open the game directly but still gives me comfort throughout the game!
Longtime fan of the English as white; with Black I play the King’s Indian against any QP stuff and …e5 (and the consequent Ruy) against e4. Should’ve probably gotten into the Sicilian–it would’ve been more my style (and a sort of English reversed); but probably too many early shellackings (and those are gonna happen with 1…c5) shied me away from it.
I like to Open by castleing
I always try to control the center of the board by moving either the king’s or queen’s pawn 2 spaces foward.
i make a V with my pawns
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 4.Ng5
i start out by moving the pawn infront the queen
Ruy Lopez Exchange Variation.
King pawn to K4 or Queen pawn to Q4
I like opening a game with the Horseman .
He can jump over any one of the pawns .
I play Queen’s pawn as white, if opponent replies with Queen’s Gambit Declined I play the Exchange variation (trade center pawns) and go for the "minority attack" pushing pawns on the queen’s side..
As black I play Caro-Kann against King’s Pawn, and Gruenfeld against Queen’s Pawn. The Gruenfeld defense can often be played against the English too!
as white, iv’e managed to get queen’s pawn opening to work
As black, i usually do king’s pawn, and play reactively
For both, i end up castling relatviely soon.
Queens pawn opening I do not play the queens pawn as white the Karo Kahn as black.
Scotch Gambit where I get to go crazy.
1e4 e5 2 Nf3 Nc6 3 d4 exd4 4 Bc4 Bb4+ 5 c3 (black can’t prevent me from giving up another pawn!) dxc3 6 0-0 cxb2 7 Bxb2 …
I always play 1.e4, I love it when I face the Sicilian and will throw Caro-Kan players off by playing the 2 Knights variation.
As black I’ll play a French Winawer vs. 1.e4 and will try to play a Nimzo vs 1. d4. Alot of players as white will shift into a Catalan set-up with 3.g3, I’ll then play the open variation of that as I am comfortable with it.
The pawn in front of the king…no, I dunno….
