Which is your most successful chess opening (a) as White (b) as Black?

Can you say why you do better with these openings? What do you like about them?
Good point, mark h, but which do you prefer anyway? And why?

You already got some good answers, so let me get on my soapbox. The only one I feel worth mentioning for me is (in club games) I play the Marshall Gambit in the Scandinavian Defense. It goes:
1.e4 d5
2.exd Nf6
If white plays 3.c4 with the idea of keeping the pawn it gets awful for him, so it’s very successful against lower rated players because its a rare line with lots of traps — too many to go into.
One tricky line I enjoy when they don’t try to keep the pawn:
1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Nf6 3. d4 Nxd5 4. c4 Nb6 5. Nc3 e5
Consider picking it up, besides maybe some experts, sub-masters will not know the favorable lines below.
Otherwise, here’s what to do if you see it.
Transpose it into French Exchange (Caro Exchange in case of c6):
1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Nf6 3. c4 e6 4. d4 exd5 5. Nc3
Best way to keep the pawn:
1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Nf6 3. Bb5+ Bd7 4. Bc4 Bg4 5. f3 Bf5 6. Nc3 c6 7. dxc6 Nxc6
IMO best way to play against it:
1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Nf6 3. d4 Nxd5 4. c4 Nb6 5. Nf3 Bg4 6. c5 N6d7 7. Bc4 e6
Obviously there are tons more lines and different ideas, but the last one is forcing and strong so you wont have to fall for this crap if you ever run into it
As White, the English. Using c4, I am more in control of the game, black has less chance of calling any shots.
As Black, the Alechine. It is not well known by many players and give me an edge.

I am most successful playing white when I play the English Opening 1. c4. I have been playing it for years and for serious chess it is my prefered opening. I like that it seems to be less well analysed than the King and Queen pawn openings.
When I play Black, I sometimes play the Centre Counter Gambit against king pawn openings (1. e4 d5 ).
When facing a Queen pawn opening I play one of the Indian openings,

I’m usually successful with the King’s gambit. Though it can also doom your chances of winning very fast.
you can have the best opening and make a tragic mistake on the 30th move and lose the game?

They both give a lot of variety and interesting, complex positions.
