Do you know of any Free Chess games to play against the computer and not an opponent? For free–not just a?
one time download trial version.
I am a beginner and I hate to play against other players and have not had a good learning experience. I want to play against a computer type tutorial maybe and all I have seen are ones that you download for one free trial and then you have to pay. I know that there must be sites where I can play long term for free but where are those sites????

Then, choose Winboard as your interface… that way, you can play chess on the server with a good interface, and you have a computer as an opponent, but the computer (GNU CHESS 5.2+) is real hard to beat….
But if you need a tutorial, buy Chessmaster from an electronics store…
You can download the source code to a free Delphi chess board component example from resplendence.com at http://www.resplendence.com/download/chessbrd.zip. Included in the zip file is a sample program that will allow you to play against the computer at varying levels of difficulty.
Also, if you want to see how chess games can be programmed, you’ll have the source code to review (if you so desire).
Enjoy!
I agree, freechess.org is a good, free, chess engine. I like babaschess as my interface, but I admit I’ve never used it to play against a computer opponent — I’ve looked but can’t see how to do it with babaschess.
