I have an acquaintance that is a pretty good chess player. He is not a Master, but I think he is called an Expert. Anyhow, against every first move for White he answers with Black the first move of c5. His opponents have opened 1) e4 1) d4 1) c4 1) f4 1) Nf3 1) Nc3 and I think even once an opponent of his opened 1) b4 but in every case he responds as black with c5. I asked him a bit about it, and he said something about Sicilian defense and Benoni Defense? I then asked him had he ever lost his c5 pawn and been down a pawn? He said in many openings the c5 pawn is a gambit pawn? Anyhow, I don’t know him very well, so haven’t gotten into great detail about it. But is anybody out there an authority on c5 openings for black, c5 as a gambit pawn, and why they seem to work for him no matter what his opponents play as White? He wins often also. I would be curious about books on it too. Thanks in advance.
I have always wondered what kind of algorithms are employed on the computer chess program that can easily win the best players in the world.
Does it uses a database which have set of all possible combinations and the best step stored in it ? Nope it must not be like that because that program size will be extremely large in that case.
Or are there many rules in the game of chess that if followed we can always win. For example in Tic Tac Toe game, learning some tricks always makes you atleast tie with the opponent or even win if your opponents dont know those.
Chess is one of the most logical game in the world. What is the secret beyond it AI ? Across speed and accuracy what makes a chess program the best chess player ?
I’m pretty good already but I would like to learn how to play better, what is the best way to learn to be a better chess player?
What are Grandmasters? I’m pretty good at chess but I don’t really know the terminology.
And there’s chess tournaments? Is there like a website for the tournaments?
i’m not a chess expert or GM. I’m just an ordinary yahoo chess player. I have chess genius software. I have played 3000 games with it on my computer since 2006 and i have lost all 3000. I can’t even get a draw out of it. I tried very hard but it never works. And i play with the weakest strength of chess genius which is "instant move". Instant move mode is considered weakest because chess genius does not think and moves immediately. However, I still lose very badly. Are there any tricks or strategies that can help me defeat it? The best that I have done is lasted 72 moves before being checkmated.
Are there any organizations that regulate who can teach chess? I’m a decent Chess player, I want to teach Chess and I’m not so confident in my ability to teach. Can anyone direct me to any resources where I can learn how to teach Chess?
