I am the board 1 player for my school’s chess team and am looking for some chess software which will help me learn some more complicated openings. I would like a program which allows me to play against a computer, and also walks me through a large variety of different openings for both white and black. I would prefer free software, but if it is really good I would pay for it too.

Additionally, if anybody has additional suggestions on how to improve my game (besides reading opening books, they just don’t seem to help me much) please let me know in your answer.

Question by steveintheed: the game pages now have too many advertising windows making it difficult to play – why? that sux!!!?
now i can’t even play chess anymore because all the new advertisments slow the game down so much, and crash my computer, please tell the people at yahoo this!!! Thanks

I’m looking for fun PC Games to play on my computer. I’m looking for several genres of games-

1) Strategy – No, not chess or sudoku or anything like that. I’m looking for something like Sid Mier’s Civilization Series or StarCraft or Warhammer or Age of Empires or Overlord, you know some civilization or military building games.

2) Fantasy – Something like Bioshock or World of Warcraft or Spore, some things that involve fighting with things like magic or stuff like that.

3) Shooter – The two examples that come to my mind are Gears of War and Call of Duty, things like GTA are what I’m looking for here.

Question by brkln: Windows Vista Game Problems?
I have windows vista, and whenever I try to download a game (such as big fish), it will download it..but when it gets to the “activate” part, a box opens up that says “__ game has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to this problem.” I’ve looked it up online, but I am pretty much computer illiterate, so I don’t understand how to fix it. Plus, a lot of the problems people seem to be having are with default games, like solitaire, chess, etc. I get this problem with any game I try to download..does anyone know how to fix it? Please keep in mind I don’t understand computer lingo…so please try to keep it as basic as possible. Thank you.

Question by E-T: ipod touch game apps problems?
i’ve had my ipod touch (8 gig) for about 5 months now. i used to have some games on it (monopoly, chess, etc.), but i had to re sync it to my new computer and it deleted everything on it. I had no problems installing my songs again, but every time i try to reinstall my games, it says that i’m not allowed to on this computer… Has anyone else had that problem and if so, how did you solve it?

your going to have to go through a long and annoying ordeal with Itunes people… they usually won’t let you like re-download it but i argued with them and they gave me more money in my itunes account so i could redownload stuff….but everyone else i have talked to they said your just pretty much screwed. I dunno just call Itunes.

Do they have different levels of playing? I would check and see. If not make silly moves to confuse the computer. Good luck

I have played 245 games at level 5 and I have 14 wins, 7 draws, and 224 losses. Every time I win it’s because the computer makes a big mistake. Is there an algorithm that forces the computer to make a big mistake like every 20th game?

I am not familiar with Chess Titan. If change the level of its playing strength then its algorithm also changes. For example if you lessen its level, then chess titan will chose an algorithm of weaker chess playing.

Now I read somewhere that Chess Titan has chess bugs. Anyway, I suggest you to choose another chess program, there are better ones. I think Chess Master is better. Not only you can play against it, it has interactive chess lessons too that will help you improve your play.

Hi.

I am looking for a chess game to play with people on the internet who use Windows (XP, or 7), and it should be able to be played as long as it takes while I dont need to sit while the game continues. In the Apple iPhone and iPod touch and iPad there is a Chess game called Chess With Friends which lets you make your move whenever you are ready and exit the app. come back within a week and see if your component already sent their/his/her move.

U am looking for something similar in a way to be used on a MS Windows computer connecting with a server and continue the game even if its just a move per week.

Yes, at any age you have a chance to be good, as you have defined it.
I hear your frustration. You can read and read, and then lose again on easy setting.
With just a few lessons in person, any established chess club member
could help you to defeat the computer on easy setting.
