2. Set to “Analysis Mode”. Play your opening and then set “Machine White” or “Machine Black”.
You can install several different engines and play against the desired one.

I played chess for about 4 years, and I found that the more I played the better I got so yes I would say that playing one game of chess a day would help. A LOT

Converting development to material, traditionally 3 tempos are often equal to 1 pawn.
Chess engines calculate advantage in a chess game, and the answer is expressed
in terms of material using a pawn as a unit of measure. Fritz is quite commonly used.
There are very many other excellent chess engines are available to us.

Why don’t you just download a free copy of a chess or poker game. I find it a lot more fun playing against real people instead of a computer. Yahoo! chess is not bad and Pokerstars is really fun for Sit and gos tournaments.

I’m looking for an old game from the beginning of computers. It is a small strategy game with China vs US with T60 tanks and scud launchers all on a green field it almost like chess. I think the name was Modern Warfare. Can you help me find it. Please post me links or let me know the right name. It fitted on a floppy disk if I remember well. Thanks

Most all chess players with some knowledge of the game right up to the Grandmasters and World Champion either open with their King’s Pawn or Queen’s Pawn their first move (Seldom they will open with their Queen’s Bishop Pawn or King’s Knight, and very rarely King’s Bishop Pawn); but between the King’s Pawn and Queen’s Pawn which do you prefer to open with and why? I know which of the two I prefer to open with but I am just curious about other’s views and perhaps get some insight. This would be the move choice as White, since White always moves first and opens before Black begins defense. Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Yes you will find Queen’s Bishop Pawn Openings and King Knight’s openings among the lower rateds, but you will seldom see these played at the Master and Up level. Pawn to Queen Bishop’s four first move does get played seldom as I said at Grandmaster level, but I have not seen the King’s Knight opened first move at those higher levels since reading chess books from the 1920′s. The opening with the King’s Knight does transpose into a Queen’s Pawn or Queen’s Bishop Pawn opening called "Reti Opening". Other opening moves apart from King and Queen’s Pawn are common among lower rated players and beginners, including those that play tournaments. More to the point, the question is BETWEEN opening with your King’s or Queen’s Pawn which do you prefer and why? Thank you, and I hope I cleared that up

EDIT2: Brief edit: e Pawn = King’s Pawn and d pawn = Queen’s Pawn in the algebraic system, should you prefer that.
For me, its moving the pawn from d2 to d4. What I do from there usually depends on how the other player moves. But I usually try to castle on the king side as soon as possible because later in the game every move seems to count twice as much.
timptini – I used to try to castle as late as possible but I later found that I would be getting checked if I waited too long.
