So I have been seriously playing chess for the past 6 months but I always struggle with starting the game… I don’t know whether to move my D pawn or E pawn up first. i have recently took up the hobby of playing chess and i was if i was to play the ruy lopez opening in chess which starts out as(your) e4 to(your opponent) e5, if you opponent decides that they want to play their knight first instead of their pawn, can you still play the ruy lopez opening or do you have to change your opening?

I am not sure if this is true. Games require a different set of thinking distinct to themselves. Math is like a game in itself and has it’s own distinct “rules.” If playing chess improve your mathematical skills then it should also improve your computer games skills, which does not seem very likely to me.
