I learned about the Sicilian Defense nazjdorf yesterday and i really liked it. Now can what can i do if someone uses it against me? is there an opening that counterattacks it?
I have an acquaintance that is a pretty good chess player. He is not a Master, but I think he is called an Expert. Anyhow, against every first move for White he answers with Black the first move of c5. His opponents have opened 1) e4 1) d4 1) c4 1) f4 1) Nf3 1) Nc3 and I think even once an opponent of his opened 1) b4 but in every case he responds as black with c5. I asked him a bit about it, and he said something about Sicilian defense and Benoni Defense? I then asked him had he ever lost his c5 pawn and been down a pawn? He said in many openings the c5 pawn is a gambit pawn? Anyhow, I don’t know him very well, so haven’t gotten into great detail about it. But is anybody out there an authority on c5 openings for black, c5 as a gambit pawn, and why they seem to work for him no matter what his opponents play as White? He wins often also. I would be curious about books on it too. Thanks in advance.
The Smith Morra Gambit is a sharp and aggressive line for white against the very popular Sicilian Defense. Most players that play e4 run into the Sicilian and if they want to get out of book lines and take an aggressive approach the Smith Morra Gambit is a great way to go. www.thechesswebsite.com Chess Software used in the video can be found at http and www.chessok.com
Is there any variation of the sicilian defence that starts with e4 c5 nf3 e6?
and another question, is there any place i can read about the sicilian defense and all variations of it?
and what should i do if someone do e6 after e4 c5 nf3 (if there isn’t a variation that goes that way..)

The Sicilian Defense is widely considered the best defense against white’s e4 opening move. Here we discuss various lines in the sicilian defense and key concepts to consider when you play the sicilian.
So me and a friend of mine are planning on starting to play chess regularly with each other this coming semester… We’re both pretty good for people who have no idea what we’re doing. By that I mean we’re decently logical in our play, but don’t go beyond general concepts like center control, dictating the pace of game, and king protection to specific applications like opening attacks/defenses/traps.
That being said, I’ve recently started reading/watching some videos on opening moves on Youtube, and it seems that things like the Sicilian Defense require the other person having some measure of planning like that too to be effective.
So basically, while it is worthwhile for me to know these to be better at chess, would they be effective to know and use on someone who, while intelligent and intuitive, is chess-illiterate?
Mark, I’m well aware that I have no clue what I’m doing at anything above pure amateur. My question was more as to while I’m working at becoming more chess-literate (degrees of less bad), how practical it is to look at anything structured if, while playing against someone intelligent and interested in getting better, the person I’m playing has never considered an approach to chess so structured.
I will look into the book though, and I appreciate the feedback.
